Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, father, and friend, Michael Henriquez Sanborn, at the age of 65, of Leavenworth, Kansas, on January 23, 2025. Michael spent his final weeks surrounded by loved ones, sharing laughter, stories, and music. Born on December 15, 1959, in Queens, New York, to Iris Sanborn and Phillip Henriquez, Michael was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and a cherished friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

At a young age, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he dedicated himself to serving others throughout his military career. After retiring in 1990, he continued serving at Munson Army Health Clinic as the Chief of Outpatient Medical Records. Michael's work ethic, integrity, and selflessness made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Above all, Michael was known as a loving father and "Pops" to many. His heart was big enough to include not only his own children, but all their friends, whom he embraced as his own. His love, support, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone in his life.

Michael had a deep passion for music—both listening to it and creating it. He also cherished Sunday mornings, attending church with his family. But his greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved, whether it was with his children, grandchildren, or friends.

Michael is survived by his wife, Shannon Sanborn of Blue Mound; children, Korey Sanborn (wife Ashley and son Elias) of Leavenworth, Kortni Marquardt (Blake and their children Sophie-Jae and Brodee) of Fort Scott, Keilah Marie Sanborn of Leavenworth, and Karen Sanborn of Leavenworth; siblings, David Henriquez of New York, Robert Sanborn of Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Jonsson of Leavenworth; and one Godson, Christopher Henriquez of New York.

Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Iris Sanborn; his father, Philip Henriquez; and his brother, Phillip Henriquez.
