Robert Eugene Cowan, 95, Leavenworth, passed away July 4, 2021. Bob was born February 4, 1926 to Dwight and Ethel Cowan in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bob married Shirley Ann Bell, June 8, 1947 in Tulsa OK .

Bob graduated from Drumright High School, Drumright, Ok and the University of Tulsa, Bob received a Bachelor of Music Education (1949) and Masters in Music Education from the University Of Tulsa (1950). He was employed at the Fort Leavenworth Schools from 1954 to 1986. In 1973, Bob and Shirley bought The Toon Shop in Leavenworth, and owned it until 2003. Bob served on the faculty of St. Mary's College and taught private music lessons for many years. Bob was a trombonist in The Gentlemen of Note Band, which played in the Kansas City and St. Joseph area for more than 30 years.  He was also the leader of the Bourbon Street Saints, and a member of the Kansas City Kicks and Abdullah Shrine bands. And he conducted the Leavenworth Community Band.

Bob was drafted into the US Army in 1944, served in Europe in Patton's Third Army in 1945. Transferred to the 5th Infantry Division Band at the end of WWII.  Returned to Tulsa in 1946 and remained in the Reserves until 1950 when he was placed with the 306th Logistical Command and 330th Army Band in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

Bob is survived by a son, Conrad (Michelle) Cowan, four grandchildren Christina Terry, Chad Cowan, Danny Cowan, Charlie Cowan, two great-grandchildren, Megan Johnston, Madison Gomez, and dear family friend Thaneshia Lindsey.

Bob predeceased by his wife, Shirley (2020) and a son, Ronald Cowan (2001).

Private family service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors.
