Robert "Bob" E. Sharp, Jr., 72, Leavenworth, passed away November 16, 2021, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower V.A. Medical Center. Bob was born May 29, 1949, in Kansas City, MO to Robert E. Sharp, Sr. and Virginia Mae (Limb) Sharp. He was raised in Overland Park, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. Bob served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam war era. After returning home, he attended Johnson County Community College, graduating with an AA degree in Theater Education.
Bob married Carol Payne Bowman on December 29, 1990 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Leavenworth. Bob was a true Renaissance man, working in a variety of fields over the years. He owned and operated his own tailoring business for 20 years, beginning in Overland Park and then moving to Leavenworth in 1986. He and Carol then started and operated a catering business in Leavenworth, Touch of Class Catering, in 1992, for which he was the chef. After closing the business in early 1998, being a gifted computer code writer, he became a computer programming consultant, traveling across the United States working for various companies to resolve their in-house computer coding problems, until he retired.
Bob loved theater and was a talented actor, lighting and sound designer, costume designer and technical director in community theater across the entire Kansas City region, winning two awards as technical director. He had a lovely baritone-bass voice and enjoyed singing in church choirs, musical theater and barbershop. Bob dabbled in a wide variety of interests to include portrait photography, writing, fly fishing and golf.
Bob was a member of St Paul's Episcopal Church for many years, serving in the choir, as a lector and on the church vestry. For the last year of his life, he became a part of Pilgrim Community Church, lending his beautiful voice as a soloist on many occasions and being a part of the Adult Bible Study group. He was a member of the Leavenworth Lions Club.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife Carol of the home; his stepson Brandon Bowman of Lawrence, KS; sister, Susan Kjellsen of Mesquite, NV; brother, Richard (Karla) Sharp of Leawood, KS; sister, Janet (David) Campbell of Springfield, MO; step-brother, George (MacKenzie) Purcell of Austin, TX; sister-in-law Jean (Mike) Biondo of Kearney, MO and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 200 N. 7 th St., Leavenworth. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 at the church. Inurnment will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 12:30. A reception will then be held at 1:30 at the church Parish Hall across the street from the church.
