Rose Anne (Clarke) Sachse was born to a large farm family in Ethan, South Dakota on

May 1, 1929. In 1957 she moved to Leavenworth, KS with her husband, Mike Sachse, where

they lived out their dream of owning a big white farmhouse and filling it with children. Her life

was marked by service to God, her family and her neighbors. She was tremendously joyful,

always choosing to love what was presented to her.

For many years, her days began with mass at St Joseph/Immaculate Conception

Catholic Church, a daily rosary, a stop at the public library, and a trip to the grocery store, often

to restock on ingredients for one of her famous rum cakes. It was rare to find her without an

apron around her waist and a smile on her face. And, although she lived alone after the passing

of her husband in 1991, her house was seldom empty. It was her personal mission to ensure

that each visitor was greeted with a compliment, entertained with a poem, and left with a full

stomach. She died peacefully with family, sleeping in the farmhouse she loved, on January 7,

2024.

She is survived by her five children: Mary Alford (Ed) of Topeka, David Sachse (Katrina)

of Taipei, Taiwan, Dan Sachse (Julie) of Leavenworth, Carolyn Briestensky (Mirko) of Phoenix,

and Sue Sachse of Leavenworth. Also surviving is her sister, Angela Johansen of Omaha, along

with fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rose Anne was a woman who grew things, whether that was her farm, her family, or her

Catholic faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a creature of joy and service, of elegance and

hardiness, of humility and gratitude. Her lips were deeply familiar with both prayer and poetry,

but never with complaints, and had age not gradually worn down her body, she likely would

have worked until the day she died, never resting until her final rest. But even more than she

worked, she sang, and kept singing even when she could no longer stand. For anyone who

knew her, whether through her work, her community, or her family, she still sings, both as we

continue to carry her melody on Earth, and as she sings now before the Lord she loves.

Memorial contributions may be made to Birthright of Leavenworth, Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Catholic Church, or St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Rosary will be prayed at 9 A.M., Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at St Lawrence Catholic Church, Easton, Kansas. Visitation will follow until 11 A.M for the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Mount Calvary, Lansing, Kansas.
