Shirley Ann Bell Cowan, 92, Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020. She was born June 6, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles C. and Josephine M. Bell. She married Robert Eugene Cowan on June 8, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Shirley graduated from University of Tulsa in 1951, and in 1949-50 was President of Sigma Alpha Iota Sorority. She and her family moved to Leavenworth in 1956. She was an Elementary Music Teacher in the Leavenworth Public Schools 1959-68 and a Music Teacher at Patton Jr. High, Ft. Leavenworth 1968-74. The Cowans purchased the Toon Shop in downtown Leavenworth in 1973, and operated it for 30 years.

Shirley sang in the First Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir for 52 years. She also served as the Children's Choir Director and on the Worship and Music Committee. She was always present when her husband Bob played and directed the Brass Ensemble in churches throughout the community.

She enjoyed cooking and trying out new Southern recipes using locally grown produce. She loved to vacation in the Colorado Mountains.

She is survived by her husband Robert, son Conrad (Michelle) Cowan, four grandchildren, Christina Terry, Chad Cowan, Danny Cowan, Charlie Cowan, two great-grandchildren: Megan Johnston, Madison Terry; and dear family friend Thaneshia Lindsey.

Shirley is predeceased by a son, Ronald Cowan (2001).
