Sue Gooch passed peacefully on March 9, 2022 after a sudden decline in her health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and special friends.

She was born on March 22, 1942 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Joseph and Bernice Buchanan.  Sue attended Leavenworth Public Schools and graduated in 1960.  After graduation she entered the U.S. Navy where she served for three years. She also attended Kansas City Kansas Community College.  She was employed and retired from the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) Fund after 24 years as a NAF employee.

She married Lenny Amaral and to that union they had three children Michael, Mark and Michelle. She later married James Gooch and they blended their families with Bobby, Craig and Jacob.  Sue was a loving mother and grandmother to her children.

She enjoyed sports with a love for softball and horseshoes. Sue was on a Woman City Softball League which she enjoyed and told many stories about the good times she had.

She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and being with her friends.

She united with the First Missionary Baptist Church in 1990 and served faithfully for 32 years in different ministries. Sue had a special love for working with the Youth Department.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Bernice Buchanan, her ex-husband James Gooch, daughter Michelle Arroyo, son Bobby Gooch and grandson Bobby Gooch Jr., son Michael Amaral followed her to heaven passing 9 days later on March 18, 2022.

She is survived by her brother Greg Buchannan (Joy) and her children, Mark Amaral, Jacob Gooch, Craig Gooch, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and devoted friends Latoya Mount and Chuck Tolbert. She will be missed by all that loved her.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at First Missionary Baptist Church, 800 West 7th Street at 11:00 a.m.
