Obituary

Sylvia Marsh Stevens, 92, died on 17 July 2025 in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Born in Washington, Mississippi on 7 November 1932, the daughter of Darden Marsh and Era Liddell Marsh, she attended All Saints Episcopal Boarding School in Vicksburg and graduated from Natchez High School. In 1954, she earned a teaching degree from Mississippi State College for Women; she began teaching in 1965 when living in Japan during her husband's Air Force assignment.
She met and married 1 st Lt. Richard (Dick) Stevens, USAF, in 1954. The couple had three daughters: Liddell, Lori, and Lisa. After a variety of Air Force assignments, the family settled in Dover, DE, where Dick retired. He died in 1984.
Ten years later, Sylvia met Bernard (Bernie) Stone, a noted Kansas artist, who became Sylvia's traveling companion. She retired from teaching in 1998, and moved to Leavenworth, KS in 2010.
Sylvia is survived by three daughters (Liddell, Lori, and Lisa), nine grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, sister Sue Anne Whitney, and companion Bernie.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 27 September at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Leavenworth at 11 A.M. Her ashes will be interred in the Leavenworth National Cemetery the following Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donation be made to St. Paul's
Episcopal Church Organ Restoration fund.
