Virgil Jones entered eternal life on November 13, 2021, following a brief illness.
He was 79 years old. Born February 15, 1942, the son of Walter and Vioda Jones, Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hershel, Richard and his wife Ann. He is survived by brothers Robert, John (Gig), Ron (Susie), and Gary (Deborah) and sisters, Dolores Hudson (Jim), and Bonnie Jones.
Virgil married Harriett Redford on December 21, 1968. She and Virgil have two children, Cassandra (Nick Kelly) and Jason (Jessica), grandchildren James, Benjimin, Addison, Avery and Austin.
Following graduation from Emporia State University in 1968, he began working for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He retired from his position as an officer in the Statistical Services Branch in 1994.
He volunteered for the Arthritis Foundation working to help those with arthritis.
Virg was a member of First Baptist Church and served in many different capacities sharing his love for the Lord.
He was a lifelong fan of K State and attended games in Manhattan whenever possible.
Virg attributed his extraordinary gift to persevere through illness and life challenges to an unwavering faith in Christ and the power of prayer. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to countless others. His greatest joys occurred in being actively involved in the lives of his family. His faith and devotion to a family are an inheritance beyond worth.
A memorial service to celebrate Virg's life will be held at First Baptist Church, 340 N. 13th Street, Leavenworth, KS on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials in honor of Virg may be given to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
