William "Bill" Walter Hammons, 64, of Leavenworth, Kansas entered his heavenly home of Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital-North.

Bill was born on September 23, 1957, in London, Kentucky to Bill and Jenny (Phipps) Hammons. The family later moved to Dillsboro, Indiana where he spent his childhood and youth. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army (Ft. Knox, KY) and served in various locations stateside and overseas. After his retirement (Ft. Hood, TX), he was self-employed as a residential and commercial property inspector for insurance companies and, at the time of his death, was self-employed as an independent automobile adjuster.

His passion was his family. His daughter. Alyssa describes him as hardworking, loving, and determined. They shared a deep love and respect for one another, often taking opportunities to go on "Daddy-Daughter" dates. The life lessons he taught her will be with her forever. His wife, Cindy, describes him as humble, never wanting to be in the spotlight, yet helping others behind the scenes and ready to have conversation with anyone who crossed his path; passionate about his family and his county, and a man where integrity was extremely important.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cynthia Jo (Davis) Hammons, his sons William Christopher "Chris" Hammons and Cory David  (Elizabeth) Hammons, his daughter, Alyssa Leandra Jonell Hammons, and future son-in-law, Brendan Thomas Mann as well as their  unborn child, Jesse.   He is also survived by a brother, David and sister, Rhonda (Ron) Amm. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Chester and Virginia Alice (Phipps) Hammons. Bill was loved by grandchildren Kiera and Jaxton as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, in-laws, and other family members.

The family would like to give sincere thanks to the St. Luke's-North ICU medical staff who diligently cared for Bill during his time of illness.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School with visitation at 10:00 followed by a service at 11:00 officiated by Rev. Van Edward Mease.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Operation Barnabas, a ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to assist military families in meeting their physical and emotional needs. Donations should be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and earmarked "Operation Barnabas". Davis Funeral Chapel was in charge of the cremation and other funeral services.
