Alonzo Jerry Wright, Jr. (Al ) departed this life Friday, May 29, 2020.  Al was the second of three children born January 17, 1954 to the union of Alonzo J. Wright, Sr. and Doretha (Shumaker) Wright. He married Karen Northern Cline February 28, 1992.

Alonzo was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, having lived on both the Kansas and Missouri sides of the river for extensive periods of time. He was a product of the City Missouri Public School System, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1972 where he enjoyed playing basketball.

Alonzo, better known to family and friends as Al, was a loving, soft-spoken man; very easy to get along with.  He had a passion for cooking which turned into a passion for barbeque. These passions are exemplified in the jobs he's held; Red Lobster, KC Masterpiece, Hayward's Pit Bar B Que, and Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbeque (seventeen years).

It was at Red Lobster Al met his wife Karen where both were working at the time. She admired his calm demeanor under pressure and soft-spoken ways and the interlude resulted in their marriage. Whoever said opposites attract was so true of Karen and Al.  However, his funny demeanor and her outgoing craziness made for great bedfellows.

This Red Lobster "pairing" has repeated itself a couple times in the family.

Cooking at family gatherings was something Al really enjoyed.  Baked beans, potato salad and macaroni and cheese were sure to be on his hit list as the pride side dishes to his barbeque.

Another result of his passion for cooking was his creation of a barbeque sauce "Daddy O" which was sold commercially.  He engaged in barbeque competitions which included the American Royal World Series of BBQ - garnering Third place.   Al loved his family; he loved his class and he loved Jack Stack.

This loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle leaves to remember his time on earth his beloved wife Karen Y. Wright; son Alonzo Revels; grandchildren: Samaysia (May May) Mckinzy, Alonshea Haislip, Kevonta Rashleger, Alonzo (Mister) Haislip, and Chloe Marie Wright; 'adopted' grandchildren; Haley Wright, Isaiah Randle, Andre Randle,; Brother Michael (Peggy) Wright of Denver Colorado;  His siblings Doretta (Wright) Lattimer and Michael Wright,  nieces- Ina, Jimmie, Stephanie and Lynn and a hot family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo J. Wright, Sr., mother Doretha Wright, and sister Doretta Lattimer.

Celebration of Life will be held 11 A.M., Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Beach Shelter at Wyandotte Co Lake Park.
